Frequently asked
How podiatry can help, and what to expect.
Thirteen questions patients ask Manly Foot Clinic in North Manly, NSW, answered in the clinic’s own words: health fund cover, fees, referrals, sterilisation, nail surgery, orthotics and children’s feet. If yours is not here, call (02) 9977 0047.

Fees and cover
If your policy includes podiatry, yes. All major private health funds recognise the clinic, and podiatry is covered under extras rather than hospital cover. How much you get back depends on your level of extras and how much of your annual limit you’ve already used. Bring your health fund card and we can process your claim on the spot, so you only pay the gap. For an exact figure, ask your fund for the rebate on the specific service before your appointment. We can give you the item number to quote.
Costs vary according to the practitioner and type of assessment. A general consultation is $120.00 for an initial visit and $105.00 for a subsequent visit. On Saturdays a general consultation is $120.00 for an initial visit and $110.00 for a subsequent visit. A biomechanical consultation is $160.00. With Dr Ozan Amir, an initial surgical consultation is $290.00 and a subsequent consultation is $180.00.
No, you can book directly without a referral. If you’d like, we’ll send a short report to your GP after your appointment so your foot care stays part of your overall health record. If your appointment is through a Medicare care plan, DVA or another funded program, you will need a referral, so check with us when you book.
Treatments
Routine treatment includes nail care, and the removal of corns and callus.
At the Manly Foot Clinic we utilise various treatments for plantar warts, including surgical excision. This can be carried out in our premises under local anaesthetic.
Ingrown toenails that keep coming back often need a minor procedure to remove the problem edge of the nail. All our podiatrists perform nail surgery here at the clinic under local anaesthetic, with no hospital stay needed. Sterile instruments and aseptic technique are used throughout. At Manly Foot Clinic, we are able to offer both the partial nail avulsion and Winograd procedure for ingrown nails.
Yes, when they’re the right fit for the problem. Custom orthoses are prescribed after a biomechanical assessment and made from a scan of your feet. They can help redistribute load away from painful areas and improve how your feet and legs work together when you walk or run. Orthoses are usually one part of a plan that may also include footwear advice, stretching and strengthening.
Yes. A biomechanical assessment looks at how your feet, ankles and legs move through each stage of walking or running, and where that movement may be contributing to pain or injury. Your plan is built from what we find. Depending on the problem, it may combine targeted strengthening and stretching, taping or bracing, footwear changes and, where needed, orthoses.
Reconstructive surgery corrects the structure of the foot when a deformity is causing ongoing pain or difficulty walking and non-surgical care hasn’t helped. That can mean realigning the bones of the big toe in a bunion, straightening severe or rigid hammer toes, or correcting deformity in the rearfoot, such as a collapsing flat foot. Each procedure is planned around your X-rays, how your foot functions and what you need to get back to. Dr Ozan Amir trained in podiatric surgery with the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons. He completed further surgical training in the United Kingdom and at the Podiatry Institute in Atlanta, where he focused on rearfoot reconstruction. Before any procedure is booked, you’ll be told what it involves, the expected recovery time and the risks.
