Injection therapy in Manly.

What Is Injection Therapy?

Injection therapy places a medicine, most often a corticosteroid (cortisone), directly at the source of inflammation under ultrasound guidance. At Manly Foot Clinic it is delivered in the clinic as part of a staged plan for pain that conservative care has not resolved.

Who It Helps

The indications below are the ones the clinic’s own condition pages describe. In each, injection therapy sits after padding, strapping, orthoses and exercise, not before.

Heel pain and plantar fasciitis

Injection therapy. In some cases, corticosteroid injections are used to help reduce the inflammation and relieve pain.

Morton’s neuroma

Conservative treatment involves a reduction in the inflammation and removing the impingement factor. Reduction in inflammation is achieved via rest, elevation, ice, and massage with anti-inflammatory gels. Removing footwear and/or wearing broad type footwear would also help. Injection therapy is useful in reducing symptoms.

What to Expect

An injection is not booked cold. Every course starts with an assessment and ends with a review.

Assessment first

Your podiatrist confirms the diagnosis, checks what conservative care has already been tried, and explains whether an injection is appropriate. For neuroma, MRI and high definition ultrasound examination may be useful to confirm the diagnosis.

The treatment

An ultrasound-guided injection is performed in the consulting room and takes a few minutes. It is done at Manly Foot Clinic, not at a separate imaging centre.

Review and progress

Structured review, outcome measurement and a report back to your referring practitioner. If pain persists after a full course of conservative care, the surgical opinion is available in the same clinic.

Why Consider Injection Therapy at Manly Foot Clinic

  • Delivered in-house, end to end, so a plan is not interrupted by a referral out for the injection.
  • Ultrasound guidance for injections, so the medicine goes where the pain is.
  • A surgical podiatrist consults at the clinic, so if injection therapy is not enough the next conversation happens in the same building.
  • Injection therapy is one of the non-surgical approaches the clinic has described for heel pain and neuroma for years.

What it costs

The clinic publishes consultation fees on its FAQ page and nothing further. The fee for an injection is quoted at assessment; it is not published and is not stated here.

Injection Therapy FAQs

No. Initially see your local podiatrist, who may add one or more of these treatment approaches: padding and strapping, orthotic devices, injection therapy, a removable walking cast, a night splint and physical therapy. Injection therapy is one option within that list, used in some cases to help reduce the inflammation and relieve pain.

No, you can book directly without a referral. If you’d like, we’ll send a short report to your GP after your appointment so your foot care stays part of your overall health record. If your appointment is through a Medicare care plan, DVA or another funded program, you will need a referral, so check with us when you book.

If your policy includes podiatry, yes. All major private health funds recognise the clinic, and podiatry is covered under extras rather than hospital cover. How much you get back depends on your level of extras and how much of your annual limit you’ve already used. Bring your health fund card and we can process your claim on the spot, so you only pay the gap. For an exact figure, ask your fund for the rebate on the specific service before your appointment. We can give you the item number to quote.
